In addition to training as a marriage and family therapist, Janet has a background in counselling education with over 20 years experience with adolescents and their families. In the most recent years, her focus has been working with individuals, couples, and families in a clinical setting. She has a particular interest in working with individuals, couples, and families using an emotionally focussed therapy approach. Her work experience has included diversity in age groups, culture, socio-economic backgrounds, spiritual belief systems, and sexual orientations, and she welcomes the richness that diversity brings to her practice.
Janet also enjoys working with parents regarding parenting issues. She is able to relate well to adolescents and recognizes their many strengths, adventurous spirits, and sense of loyalty to friends so often found in that age group. |
The initial goal in working with all who come to consult is the creation of a safe and caring environment where the confidentiality* of one's personal information is maintained, as is the strict adherence to all ethical and professional guidelines set by the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.
Areas of therapy focus may include: relationships, separation, divorce, addictions, depression, anxiety disorders, trauma, abuse, stress, conflict, parenting, grief and loss.
*The legal and safety issues relating to confidentiality will be explained during the first session.
