Q u a l i f i c a t i o n sJanet Bergsgaard has two graduate degrees: a Master of Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Winnipeg and a Master of Education (Counselling) from the University of Manitoba. Janet co-taught a graduate course, 'Self in the Family Laboratory', in the Master of Marriage and Family Therapy Program at the University of Winnipeg in the Winter and Spring Terms of 2009. She won the Governor General's Gold Medal for highest standing in a Master's degree and the Elizabeth Tresoor Memorial Award in recognition of her work with families. She is a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, a Registered Member of the Canadian Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, and a Member of the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focussed Therapy (ICEEFT) in Ottawa.
Janet has competed Levels 4 and 5 of the Positive Parenting Program, as well as Group PPP training, through the Manitoba Government. She has facilitated parenting groups that incorporate parenting strategies from a variety of professional perspectives, as well as those gained from her parents who raised eight children and her own from raising her daughter. She has also completed an Externship in Emotionally Focussed Therapy (EFT), as well as the Core Skills training in EFT. After a number of years of study in the Emotionally Focussed model of therapy, Janet was certified in 2014 as an Emotionally Focussed Therapist. Janet was also certified in 2023 as a Supervisor for other therapists wishing to learn the EFT model of therapy. She is drawn to this model of therapy for a variety of reasons, one of which is its collaborative approach. Another is the research-based evidence that in the majority of cases, changes in relationships not only occur at the time of therapy, but are sustained once therapy ends. |
